Shop PhotosHouse of Ella Tybout - 1880-1952

Welcome to the Tybout House of Handcrafts. The pictures below are designed to give you a sneak peek at our shoppe.  We hope that you will come and visit it in person very soon.  The home was owned by J.P. Jefferson who allowed his cousin Ella Tybout to live in the house from 1980-1952

This spring (2010) we did additional work on the Victorian Garden.  It is a work in progress and we will continue as money allows.Tybout House of Handcrafts - Warren PA

The stone work is the original that we uncovered last year.  From what we know the garden was established in 1891 when the house was moved from the corner on Second Street.

Left - Betty Dixon Candy and Craft Consignment Yarn and Needlecraft Room

As you come in the front door you will see on the right what was the formal parlor.  Today it serves as the location of our Betty Dixon Candy and craft consignment.

If you look to the right just as you come in the room you will see our yarn and needle craft supplies.  We carry yarn from the Plymouth Yarn Company, and have punch needle, Brazilian embroidery, and needlepoint supplies.  We are the only shoppe in town that carries all of the DMC floss colors.  During the Victorian era this would have served as the greeting room.
Sales Counter Kitchen Cafe and Classroom

In what used to be the dinning room, the sales counter is found.  As well as make your purchase, we also have a coffee and baked goods bar for your enjoyment.

Just in the behind the dining room is the what was the kitchen.  We use this room for customers to enjoy their beverages and for classes.  By the window you will find information on the selection of yarn and needlecraft supplies.  We have a selection of patterns and we can special order as needed.
Second Floor Childern's Items on Second Floor

Just recently we opened up the second floor of the building.  At the top of the steps we have a display of rugs and quilts and custom made pillow cases.

At the left as you go up the stairs. you will find a room that is filled with baby quits, baby sweaters, stuffed animals and many other children's items.  This was the bedroom of Ella Tybout's mother until she passed away.
Bathroom Ella Tybout's Bedroom

In the bathroom at the top of the steps you will find a lovely supply of lace doilies and tablecloths.  Your nose will find the sweet aroma of Golden Kisses soaps, diffusers, creams, and room and body sprays.

To the right at the top of the stairs you will enter the bedroom of Ella Tybout.  You can just imagine Ella sitting peacefully in her bedroom reading and writing her poetry.  In this room you will find a diverse array of crafts more suitable for the bedroom.
Ella's Room Garden

We suspect that she would have done her writing at the location of the red secretary to the left of the window.  She probably looked out over her garden and Market Street while she gathered her thoughts.

Ella's garden was know by everyone for it's beauty.  We have just started working on it.  We have dragged bags and bags of garbage out of it and have gotten down to the original stonework.  We hope by next spring that our customers will be able to sit in the garden and enjoy their tea or coffee.  We have recently found some more detailed pictures so have a better idea of what it looked like during the Victorian era.
