Criteria for Collectables, Crafts and Artwork

COLLECTABLES

Collectable and vintage items are not considered a craft.  The Tybout House of Handcrafts will accept collectable and vintage items on a limited if they are in good condition and clean. 

CRAFTS AND ARTWORK

Specific criteria for crafts to be sold at the Tybout House of Handcrafts: 

Artisans/Crafters are persons who craft with their own hands the products they offer for sale.  The tools used should be those that require a skill and personal handling of the materials. 

Crafter selling at the Tybout House of handcrafts will be chosen based on their unique, creative abilities and quality of work.  The owner will evaluate items brought to the shop to see if they meet the following criteria and represent the mood of the shop. 

1.        All crafts must be hand crafted by the person.

2.       Items must show individuality and experience with the skill for making the craft. 

3.       Crafts may not be mass produced. 

4.       Examples of unacceptable items are, but are not limited to:

          a.  Paint by numbers 

          b.  Preprinted fabric craft panels

          c.  Poorly constructed items

          d.  Crafts that are reproductions of copyrighted items

5.       Crafters may use ready-made objects that they have enhanced.  

     For example:

    a.  Tie-dyed  or machine embroidered t-shirts

          b.  Vases with hand painting

          c.  Beads and other jewelry parts that have been purchased and not hand produced

6.        All crafts must be of excellent workmanship and design.
    Requirements for these particular media:

          a.  Jewelry:
          _Label content of beads (ex. plastic, turquoise, diamond, quartz, etc.).
          _Label any metal (silver, 14ct gold, stainless steel, etc.).
          _Make sure clasps are easy for people to open.
          _Make sure bracelets are of standard length.

                 b.  Candles:
                      _Scented candles must be enclosed in a cellophane bag to contain and maintain the     scent of the candle.
                      _Any content or warning labels should be attached to the candle.
                 c.  Soaps and Scented Sprays:
                      _Follow legal regulations with labeling and contact information
                      _FDA - Food and Drug Association FDA - Food and Drug Association
                 d.  Items Made of fabric:
                      _Make sure to include the intended size
                      _List the fiber content for those who may have a sensitivity to various fibers
                      _Include washing instructions should there be problems with shrinking

           _Make sure that all finishing are complete and sewing is straight

 

7.       Photography will be permitted with the following conditions:

            a.  It must be the original photography of the crafter.

             b.  Photographs should be framed or matted with a hook, wire, or stand for display.

             c.  Greeting cards, postcards and prints are allowed, but must be approved by owner.  Envelopes of the appropriate size must be

                         provided. 

8.       Examples of crafts and artwork that may not be acceptable (unless of unique quality)  are:

              a.   Assembled from a kit

             b.   Plastic beads or plastic canvas

             c.   Plastic flowers

             d.   Excessive commercial lace on fabric items

9.       The owner of the Tybout House of Handcrafts will act as the sole judge of accepting items to be sold at the shop.  It is possible that a craft could be rejected because of a limited audience of customers. Crafters/artisans should call to make an appointment for items to be looked over for possible acceptance.  It is recommended that only 5 items be brought in at a time.  We can always contact you to bring in more items.  Items should be prepared with an attractive label representing you.
