The
Tybout House of Handcrafts
has taken over the
Betty Dixon
line of candy from the former "Sweet Memories" candy shop that
was
in downtown Warren for over 15 years. Betty Dixon candy was made
in the Jamestown area until 1992 when it was purchased by Roger Urban
who also purchased Platters Chocolate and in 1995 the two companies
merged. It was rumored that the movie star, Lucille Ball,
worked at Betty Dixon one summer when she was in her late teens and that
her famous scene from the I LOVE LUCY TV series of Lucy
and Ethel working on the candy factory line was based on that summer
job. Click on the picture and watch a video clip of this famous
scene. Today the factory is located in North Tonawanda, NY. For the most
part the factory services shops in northwestern New York. The Tybout
House is the only shop in the tri-county area that still sells Betty
Dixon candy.
In November 2009 we started carrying novelty chocolates from
Finney's Chocolate Shoppe
located in Cambridge Springs. These fun candies are sure to
delight and are yummy, yummy good!! You can see what they carry by
visiting their Web site. We will carry their candy at each
holiday.
